What a Wonderful Life...
Welcome to the weblog of Dorothy Thompson, freelance writer, author, journalist and anthologist from the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
March 28, 2001-- I have fantastic news! Our pararanormal was picked up by New Age Dimensions!!! Wahhoooooo! We have lots of revisions ahead for us, but we'd like to have this thing out by Halloween and there's no reason why it can't happen. We are just dancing on air! The paranormal is called, "The Search for the Million Dollar Ghost." Heide Kaminski, Pam Lawnizak and I have been working on this for over a year and we're finally going to see it published! Stay tuned!
February 21, 2004-- Whew, been so busy lately. Been working non-stop revising the paranormal that Heide Kaminski have to send off to a publisher by Monday. They have requested it after reading our query, so we have to make sure they don't turn us down! This book is going to take the spiritual world to new heights! Once it's finished, I'm going to miss the characters. They have become so much a part of my life. However, there's rumor that we're going to do sequels!
February 4, 2004-- Whoa, did this weblog need updating, or what? It's a shame to have so many things going on, but I guess I wouldn't have it any other way.
I guess about the latest news is that I finally have my own author website. It's taking me at least a week to get all the pages up and I'm still not through! If you'd like to see it, go to http://www.dorothythompson.homestead.com . Don't forget to sign the guestbook, please!
October 8, 2003-- Well, all my bags are packed and I'm ready to go. Sounds like an old song, doesn't it? Actually, my bags are almost packed and I don't think I'm ready at all. I'm about to start on my cross-country book tour for The Writersville Charity Cookbook. I will be accompanied by my adopted daughter, Amanda Jane, also known as "motor mouth", so this ought to be pretty interesting. We have dubbed ourselves "Lucy and Ethel" if that tells you anything. We leave tomorrow morning really really early and hopefully we'll get to Batesville, Arkansas, on Friday. On Saturday, I will be accompanied by Tricia Draper, the sole person responsible for putting the cookbook together. We have never met before, so this is doubly exciting! The booksigning will be held at the Paper Chase Book Store in Batesville at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. If anyone is in the vicinity, I'd love to meet you! At 3 p.m., we head over to the Hastings Book Store and strut our stuff until 7 p.m. Afterwards, it's party time!
I won't have access to the internet while I'm gone, so if anyone wants to get in touch with me, I'll be back on Wednesday, if I find my way there and back, that is. Oh, you don't know me, do you? I get lost in the mall, so this is going to be a test to see just how blonde I can really be.
Okay, gotta run...wish me luck!
July 10, 2003-- Today is Cassie's birthday! She's seven years old...groan...I don't want my baby to grow up. If you do not know, Cassie is my Cocker Spaniel. Yes, my little puppy isn't a little puppy anymore. Max knows this. Max is her 'adopted' brother. He just turned one and already he thinks he's a man. Can't tell the younger generation nothing. He's already proved this by trying to mate with her...only he has ends mixed up. As this is not an X-rated site, I'll spare you the details, but it doesn't make for a pretty picture. Cassie doesn't seem to mind, though. I'm beginning to think that I'm a bad mother...
Speaking of birthdays, I've just celebrated my 49th....not a thing I want to broadcast, but I have a theory on why people don't tell their ages. They don't want to admit they're getting old. I don't mind telling my age. I'm rather proud of it. My mother died at 37 and I'm thankful for each day I have on this earth. Speaking of deaths, I have received the bad news that my aunt died. Her name was Caroline J. Marticio, but we called her, Sissy. They didn't come any better and I will miss her deeply. But, one thing good did come out of it...I reunited with my sister and aunt that I had not spoken to for ten years. Conflicting views led to our separation and neither could go the extra mile to make amends. My aunt, Sissy, had everything to do with our reunion. I had spoken to her before she died and tried to tell me that life was short and that everyone should let bygones be bygones. It took her death for this to happen. Thank you, Sissy, for bringing us together again...after all...you can go home again after all.
June 24, 2003-- Wow...did my weblog need updating or what??? Since you heard from me last, my soul mate anthology, Romancing the Soul--True Stories and Verse of the Existence of Soul Mates from around the World and Beyond, has been picked up by Zumaya Publications...a big WAHOOO! The tentative date for release is June 2004.
And that interview with Bruce Cameron? Enzm.com picked it up right away...I'll keep you informed as to when it goes up.
Also, in the next few weeks, you are going to see a new look for The Writer's Life. I get bored easily...so look for that soon!
March 25, 2003-- Whew...I did it. I interviewed Bruce Cameron, the author of "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" today. Can we say sweating bullets? It was a phone interview and might I add, he had a wonderful and deep voice. I was swooning the whole time.
The interview went right well, although I did have a few obstacles in the way such as kids, dogs, a microwave and McDonald's. On his end, he gets a call from his ex. Such is life.
He was soooo interesting. I will be posting his interview in the next week.
February 20, 2003-- Still haven't heard word from the agent yet about my anthology. I've emailed my friend who told me about this agent and I'm still waiting for word from her about whether I should take that chance and email her since it will be officially two months on the 31st. It's hard to figure out whether contacting the agent is for the good or not. Just hate playing the 'waiting game'.
February 19, 2003-- I have funkitis. What is funkitis you ask? It's when the things you once loved doesn't matter anymore. No, no, not my family, although I did have to go outside and calm down when my daughter started yelling at Ronnie about switching cables and now she has no T.V. Then, my son starts in with, "When are you going to call them about installing cable (for the computer)?" so he can download things faster. Why the rush anyway?
No, I have funkitis because of other things. Like, it's winter. I hate winter. I need sunshine. So, the wonderful members of my writing group has told me about florescent lighting and Ginko pills.
Also, I feel my writing is at a stand-still. Have I accomplished any more since this time last year? Well, I got a few more articles accepted. One was for Lida for her Ebook- Ecstasy Newsletter just yesterday.
I put writing woes aside and made a webpage for my dear friend, Helen Polaski, for her call for submissions for her newest anthology, Down Came An Angel.
Then, to top that off, I got an email from the Virginia Festival of the Book, saying we were disqualified from the contest because our book was co-authored. Well, tomorrow is going to definitely be a better day!
February 7, 2003-- I was in Wal-Mart the other day and I was standing there talking to my daughter and my ex and all of a sudden, I look down and there's two people standing there going through my groceries! They didn't say, "Hi, how are you doing..." or anything! One person was throwing bags in the cart, the other one was pricing and putting the items in the bags. Then, they thrust a card at me that read: Line Rushers. Now what is this thing they call the Line Rushers? I answer that question in the February 5, 2003 edition of the Eastern Shore News.
January 1, 2003-- Woopee! 2003 is here and along with that comes the annual Preditor's and Editor's Poll! The Writer's Life is listed in the Nonfiction Zine category and I'm listed in the Zine Editor category... go to http://www.critters.org/predpoll..hint...hint...;o)
December 31, 2002--
December 31, 2002, the end of the road for a most productive year!
My anthology, Romancing the Soul, went to my agent today. It was so heavy! Of course, while at the post office, I couldn't resist telling the postmistress all about it. She was quite impressed. Not too much else happens around here, except for the opening of the Food Lion down the street. Now, that was something!
I received Helen's anthology, Forget Me Knotsfrom the Front Porch, today! My story, The Sanctuary, is one of forty-seven stories that made it to the final cut. It is beautiful! Helen's sister did the cover and did an exceptional job. Real cool book.
What a wonderful life!
